By Richard Clarke
England v France is never a 'friendly', according to Arsène Wenger.
The Arsenal manager is in the perfect position to assess the importance of tonight's game in Paris between his home and his homeland.
With Champions League and Premier League games coming up, the 58-year-old admits he could do without the fixture. But he argues it is an intriguing tie because neither side have any reason to hold back.
"I don’t really welcome the game," he said. "But for me it will be an interesting one because England v France is never really a friendly. There is always prestige at stake whether it is in football or rugby.
"England will give everything because they have a new manager and they are not going to the European Championships. France too can play without restriction because they know in their heads they cannot meet again at Euro 2008. So it is promises to be a very interesting game." |
