Brazilian midfielder Anderson will be free to begin his Manchester United career next season after being granted a work permit by the Home Office.
After reaching an agreement with Porto for the signing of the highly-rated star in May, United had been rejected in their first attempt to secure the necessary documentation as Anderson had failed to win the necessary amount of caps.
However, the Premier League champions appealed on the grounds that Anderson represents a special talent, and the Home Office have now given the green light for the transfer to be completed.
"We are delighted to announce our application for Anderson's work permit has been successful," said a club spokesman.
"We look forward to finalising his transfer in the very near future."
Anderson is currently representing his country in the Copa America in Venezuela, and won his first senior cap in Wednesday night's surprise defeat to Mexico.
Sir Alex Ferguson will now be free to unleash the midfield prodigy on the Premier League next season, alongside fellow new signings Nani and Owen Hargreaves.
