Diego Forlan ended the Primera Division season in stunning fashion with Atletico Madrid when he reeled off 13 goals in the last 10 games to become Spain and Europe’s top scorer.
His exploits have made treble winners Barcelona stand up and take notice. The Uruguayan has recently been rumoured to be on his way to the Camp Nou, and although the Catalan superpowers have not yet made an official enquiry, Forlan has confessed that he would not be opposed to a move.
“Right now, I have more than two years left on my contract. From there, you already know how this works in football. If offers start to arrive, it will be necessary to study them,” he said in an interview with Marca.
“At this point in time, I have not received anything concrete. But if something comes along and the two clubs can reach an agreement and I can agree personal terms… I would be very sad to leave these wonderful fans because in principle, I do not want to go.
“But then again, I am obviously no longer 25-years-old and I am not getting any younger and I have to seize the moment. For me to say yes and accept an offer, it would have to be something much better than what I have now at Atletico. If the conditions are the same, I will stay where I am because I am happy here.”
Although the 30-year-old did not specify his desire to join the Blaugrana, Barcelona-based daily, Sport is convinced that Pep Guardiola’s side are the only club in the hunt for his signature capable of meeting his key requirement of providing him with an improved contract and a better chance of sporting success
