Milan’s list of desired strikers was whittled down to one after a meeting with Samuel Eto’o’s agent and a warning on Emmanuel Adebayor.
It is reported in several different Italian newspapers that a summit was held late last night between general manager Adriano Galliani, agent Jose Maria Mesalles and Milan’s transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti.
The get-together had Barcelona’s blessing and a deal is close to completion, although Chelsea are ready to rock the boat with an offer of £7m per season for the Cameroon hero.
Galliani had publicly stated this week that the Rossoneri’s search for a new forward would be limited to a group of star names.
They consisted of Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, Mario Gomez of Stuttgart, Tottenham hitman Dimitar Berbatov, Eto’o and Adebayor.
The chase for the Arsenal star seems to be already over after a stern warning from an angry Arsene Wenger.
"If AC Milan are interested in Adebayor, they have to understand he is under firm contract we extended last year. They have just to call me and they will get the answer they deserve."
Wenger has already been burned by the San Siro giants, who swooped for Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Galliani revealed Milan are aiming to freshen up their squad with some young Italian talent.
“If we find an agreement with Empoli, then Luca Antonini will remain with us.”
The left-back is set to be Marek Jankulovski’s understudy, replacing the retired Serginho. |
