van der SAR - was a virtual spectator on his 100th United appearance,
and even tried to join the attack late in the game! 5
BROWN - Tried to give the Reds width on the right as his services as a
defender were not called upon throughout 5
VIDIC - Receioved a bang in the head in midweek, but he could have
played in this game unconscious as it played out in Reading’s half 5
FERDINAND - His 150th league game for United, and he will have few less
eventful ones as Reading provided no threat 6
SILVESTRE - Reprieved from no man’s land at Old Trafford by Heinze
dispute, but he had few opportunities to prove his worth 5
RONALDO - Increasingly shouldered the burden of trying to provide United
with the creative spark or individual goal they sorely needed 7
SCHOLES - His place is under pressure from Hargreaves, but curiously had
one of his less illustrious displays in a red shirt 4
CARRICK - He was the main man in the first half, running the midfield
and constantly prompting, but faded after the break 6
EVRA - Plenty of endeavour in his left-sided midfield role, but his miss
will be haunting him as it was easily United’s best chance. 5
GIGGS - Smashed one shot against the post and played a big part in the
first half, but looked frustrated and flat in the second 5
ROONEY - All hustle and bustle, and looked a good bet to break the
deadlock until his unfortunate injury 6

O’SHEA (for Silvestre 57) - Pressed into action as an emergency centre
forward but not what was needed 5
