Michael Carrick has relished the challenge of filling Roy Keane's boots at Manchester United.
The £18.6million capture from Spurs last summer was immediately billed as Keane's replacement after being handed his old number 16 shirt.
Carrick, 25, believes being compared to the ex-United hard man has only served to help him raise his performances and consistency.
The one-time West Ham midfielder is now looking to the future and believes the Old Trafford faithful will only see him get better and better.
"The manager came up to me and said 'I'm giving you the 16'," he said in The Sun.
"He was aware people were asking if I was a replacement and he told me that was the challenge - to go and prove myself to people.
"He said the challenge would be good for me. I knew people were talking about me coming in when a legend had gone and left a gap.
"I was confident that the longer it went, the better I would get and I would prove myself.
"I'm only 25 and I believe my best years are still to come." |
