Bayern Munich have denied reports that they are keen to bring in Jose Mourinho for the new season if the Chelsea coach should decide to quit his job at Stamford Bridge. Since Felix Magath's successor Ottmar Hitzfeld announced this week that he will only take care of the Bundesliga giants until the end of the season, media reports in Germany and England claimed that Mourinho could be Bayern’s prime target to lead the struggling club back to former glory. Bayern's managing director Uli Hoeness has now angrily stressed that reports suggesting that he had already started talks with Mourinho's adviser Jorge Mendes are not true at all. “I neither called Mourinho nor his adviser or contacted them in any way. If the adviser claims that I did, then he is lying. All these speculations are simply not true,” Hoeness fumed in Bild. The defending Bundesliga champions sacked Magath last week and replaced him with predecessor Hitzfeld, but their disappointing season continued with a 3-0 defeat at Nurnberg which leaves the club already 11 points behind leaders Schalke Other names linked with Bayern include Lyon’s Gerard Houllier, former Italy boss Marcello Lippi and Getafe’s German coach Bernd Schuster. |
