Has Rafa Benitez mentioned doing anything different to avoid the problem of a slow start?
He hasn't said anything specific. I think it's just a case of turning draws into wins. In the past when we've played in games where we've needed someone to come in and open something up for us, we haven't had it. But this year with the like of Torres, Babel and Benayoun, we'll have that.

You're not worried about going through a period where you drop points because so many new players are trying to gel?
I think the important thing is that this time we've signed the players before we've gone into our preseason. We've had four weeks of playing and training together - games in Switzerland, Holland and Hong Kong. So there's a good number of games for the players to gel together before the season starts.

Where does the team need to improve to ensure it mounts a more concerted challenge to Manchester United and Chelsea this year?
I think we need to turn a lot of the draws we had against the teams we should be beating into wins. When you look at a team like Chelsea, they may not have played that well at times, but they were turning those games that we might draw into wins. To do this we probably need to be a bit more clinical. When we get one chance we need to take it and then defend well. You also need that little bit of luck if you're going to win the league. United have had it, Chelsea have had it in the past, and we've had it when playing in the Champions League.

How do you think you'll link up with Torres and Voronin?
I had a meeting with the manager and he explained how he wanted me to play next year and he said that I could play with each of the forwards. It will be exciting and hopefully we can mount a serious challenge, that's what the fans and players at Liverpool are craving.

With so much striking talent are you worried about getting a game?
At a club like Liverpool you're always going to have that problem, the manager's always going to strengthen and look to bring the best players in. He wants four strikers that he can rotate, so I'm sure it'll be the same as last year. Last year we had four strikers: Kyut, Fowler, Bellamy and me and we have four strikers now with Torres, Voronin, Kyut and me. So it's much the same as last year really, just with different personnel.

Last year the team only lost one match at home but nine away, can you put your finger on what this was down to?
It's difficult to say. Our away form wasn't as good as we'd have liked, but our home form was second to none. I think we had one of the best records in the league. Again it probably goes back to having a slow start, something that comes out more when you play away from home.

Do you have a different mentality when you play away?
I think, like most teams, we're more cautious away from home, for whatever reason. Having the home crowd behind you at Anfield certainly makes it a difficult place to come to for away fans but when we go away we have to take that atmosphere with us. We have to learn to do the same things we'd do at home, cause when we do play like that we're a very difficult team to beat, and can beat anyone on our day.

Is the Premiership more a priority than Europe this year?
I think so. I think the fans would tell you that on the street. Liverpool fans have grown up with success in Europe but also with winning the league. Going around the city, and fan will tell you that they want to win the league. We haven't won it for a number of years now and I think that's what we need to do.
