According to his wikipedia biography, he was born in Tai Hang, Hong Kong, on October 16th, 1905. He made his debut for South China at the age of 17 and starred in the China national team that won the 1925, 1927, 1930, and 1934 Far Eastern Games.
In 1936, he travelled with the team to Berlin where he captained the Chinese team at the Olympics. After retiring as a player at the age of 42, in 1947, he became a highly successful coach, first with South China AA and then the national team, where he took over as manager in 1948. His greatest achievement came in 1954, when he led the Republic of China team to triumph in the Asian Games.
He also coached the Hong Kong national teams. It was a mark of how highly regarded he was in the world game that he became the first Chinese person to be elected to a senior position at FIFA, becoming its vice-president in 1965.
He died on July 4th, 1979 and is commemorated by this statue in China.
