The Director of Sports of Juventus spoke about the possibility that the Bianconeri do not succeed in reaching an agreement with their captain for a contract renewal.
Alessio Secco, along with the rest of the Old Lady's directors, is enjoying the current moment of Juventus, which he attributes mostly to Coach Claudio Ranieri.
"He has great merit in the results obtained so far," he declared to Sky. "He's a coach who integrates perfectly with Juventus of today and with the directors. There's a great feeling with him."
With regards to the transfer market, Secco is unsure whether the Bianconeri will eventually search for a new defender in January.
"Legrottaglie is doing very well. We shall calmly do an evaluation from now till January, and if things continue this way, there are no reasons to go on the market."
Finally, the Director of Sports of the Bianconeri explained the current situation with Alessandro Del Piero's contract.
"Saying what Del Piero represents for Juventus is unnecessary," he said. "The risk of losing him exists, but we are doing everything we can and we have the intention of reaching an agreement.
"I can say that we are working in the right direction for an agreement and the effort of all parties is finalized for this," Secco continued.
"It's a situation which does not please anyone, but Ranieri has such a character that is not conditioned by anyone and it's fair that it should be this way."
Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero’s future is up in the air after Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco surprisingly revealed he could leave.
The 32-year-old talisman had been expected to commit the remainder of his career to Juve this summer, but contract extension talks met with unexpected hitches.
While Pavel Nedved, Mauro Camoranesi and even David Trezeguet agreed deals, Del Piero’s talks have already broken down once and seem to have hit a brick wall.
Reports suggest that the Old Lady are only willing to offer Pinturricchio a three-year deal with a reduction in salary of nearly 30 per cent, while the Azzurri forward is unwilling to accept less than his current wage.
It had generally been assumed that an agreement would be reached within the next few days as Del Piero’s agent – brother Stefano – is talking to representatives, but for the first time the club has admitted that he could leave.
“There is no need to talk about what Del Piero means to us, but there is a risk that we could lose him,” Secco admitted.
“But we are doing everything we can and we want to find an agreement. All parties want to come to an arrangement.”
Talk of Alex’s disquiet has even started speculation that Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk may swoop to add the ex-Padova man to former Livorno hero Cristiano Lucarelli up front.
Sources suggest that the Kroty would be willing to put a contract on the table that would net Del Piero over £2m per year.
