Darren Fletcher has accused France coach Raymond Domenech of mind games ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Euro 2008 qualifier at Parc des Princes.
Domenech has suggested Scotland are now favourites to clinch first place in Group B after France and Italy cancelled one another out in a goalless draw in Milan on Saturday.
The Scots, who defeated Lithuania 3-1 at Hampden Park at the weekend, lie second and are handily-placed, with just two points separating the leading three group contenders, but Fletcher insists the odds are still in favour of their rivals.
“I’ve heard a lot of quotes coming from the French camp and I see they’re saying Scotland are favourites for the group which is just ludicrous,” Fletcher told a news conference.
“With a group containing Italy, France and Ukraine – for anyone to say Scotland are favourites at this stage, it has to be mind games!
“France are by far the favourites for this group and this game. We’ve just got to go there and compete and hope for the best really, hope they have an off day and we have another good day, like we did at Hampden.
“A draw in Paris would be an even bigger achievement than the win at Hampden.”
Scottish hopes have been boosted by the suspension of Thierry Henry after the Barcelona star was booked against Italy, but Fletcher is still under no illusions.
“We can’t really say it’s good news because Nicolas Anelka’s been in great form for Bolton and then there's David Trezeguet – they’ve got world-class players all over the park.
“Even if someone is suspended or injured, they can call upon another world-class player to take their place.”

Patrice Evra has hailed Manchester United teammates Darren Fletcher as an "unbelievable player".
The pair will lock horns this week when France face Scotland in their Euro2008 qualifier and Evra said: "Darren is an unbelievable player. He can run all day and has great technique and vision.
"He's the complete midfielder and one of the best I have ever played with.
"Darren doesn't get the same publicity as David Beckham or Patrick Vieira but his work-rate is unbelievable. When you have a player like Fletcher in your team you are happy because you know he will never stop running.
